Anthropic Rolls Out Rupee Pricing for Claude in India, Priced Above Dollar Equivalent
Anthropic has begun showing India-specific, rupee-denominated prices for Claude Pro, Max, and Team plans, but the converted cost lands above what US subscribers pay for the same tiers.
Anthropic has started showing rupee-denominated prices for Claude subscriptions to users in India, its second-largest market after the US by usage. The rollout replaces raw dollar-to-rupee conversion at checkout with localized, tax-inclusive pricing, but the new numbers work out higher than the US list price once converted back.
- Claude Pro: ₹2,000/month billed annually, about $21, versus $17 in the US
- Claude Max: ₹11,999/month, about $125, versus $100 in the US
- Team: ₹2,399/seat/month, about $25, versus $20 in the US
- India accounts for 5.8% of global Claude usage, Anthropic's largest market after the US
- No UPI support yet; payment still requires cards or Apple/Google app store billing, unlike OpenAI's rupee pricing for ChatGPT
The move follows Anthropic's Bengaluru office opening in February and partnerships with Infosys and TCS to scale enterprise deployments. Indian users had asked for rupee billing to avoid currency-conversion friction, but the localized prices include local taxes, which pushes the effective cost above the US rate rather than below it. Anthropic did not comment on the rollout.
