Anthropic Ends Fable 5 Deadline Cycle, Makes It Permanent for Max and Team Premium Only

After three deadline extensions since early July, Anthropic settled on a permanent access structure for Claude Fable 5 starting July 20: included at 50% of limits on Max and Team Premium, credits-only for Pro and Team Standard.

Anthropic has stopped extending Claude Fable 5's promotional access deadline and instead announced a permanent, tiered structure that takes effect July 20, ending five weeks of repeated cutoff dates for the model.

  • Max and Team Premium plans ($100 and $200/month) get Fable 5 included at 50% of their weekly limits, permanently.
  • Pro and Team Standard plans lose included access but get a one-time $100 usage credit.
  • After that credit, Fable 5 costs $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens, the steepest pricing of any Claude model in general availability.
  • The included limits on Max and Team Premium are themselves about a third smaller than during the temporary bonus period, which also ends July 20.
Fable demand has been hard to manage and frustrating for users, and we're continuing to invest in more capacity. - Anthropic

The reversal from Anthropic's earlier plan to drop Fable 5 from subscriptions entirely follows competitive pressure from OpenAI's GPT-5.6 Sol, offered at roughly a third of the cost, and from Chinese open-weights models undercutting on price.
