Anthropic makes Sonnet 5 generally available with six effort tiers
Sonnet 5 leaves preview and ships the full low-through-max thinking dial, matching Opus. Output pricing holds at $15 per million tokens.
Anthropic has moved Sonnet 5 out of preview and into general availability. The model now exposes the full six-step thinking-effort dial: low, medium, high, xhigh, max, and ultracode, the same range Opus 4.8 ships with, where the earlier Sonnet 4.6 stopped at four.
Output pricing stays at $15 per million tokens, unchanged from 4.6, which keeps Sonnet the mid-tier option between Haiku 4.5 and Opus 4.8. The arena is backfilling head-to-head runs across every effort level now that the endpoint is stable.
